บริการ หมายถึง การปฏิบัติรับใช้ หรือการให้ความสะดวกต่าง ๆ แก่ลูกค้าหรือผู้ใช้บริการ โดยมีเจตนาให้บริการที่สร้างความพึงพอใจให้กับลูกค้า³ บริการมีหลายประเภทขึ้นอยู่กับประเภทธุรกิจ และมีเจตนาให้บริการที่ส่งมอบความพึงพอใจให้กับลูกค้า⁴ บางครั้งการบริการอาจไม่มีสินค้าที่เป็นตัวแทนของการบริการ เช่น การบริการด้านการศึกษา การบริการด้านการแพทย์ หรือการบริการด้านเทคโนโลยี⁵

บริการที่ดีอาจมีผลต่อการซื้อสินค้าหรือการใช้บริการในอนาคต เพราะจะช่วยสร้างความไว้วางใจและความผูกพันให้กับลูกค้า^4,6 บริการที่ดีประกอบด้วย :

• Service as a helpful activity: This is when someone does something to help or assist another person, such as giving advice, lending money, or volunteering. For example, you might say “He did me a great service by fixing my car” or “She is doing a service to the community by teaching English to immigrants”.
• Service as a supply of utilities or commodities: This is when someone provides something that is needed or demanded by the public, such as water, electricity, gas, internet, or transportation. For example, you might say “The water service was cut off due to a burst pipe” or “The bus service is very reliable in this area”.
• Service as a provision of accommodation and activities: This is when someone offers something that is required by the public, such as maintenance, repair, installation, cleaning, or delivery. For example, you might say “The manufacturer guarantees service and parts for one year” or “The hotel provides room service and laundry service”.
• Service as a form of worship or ceremony: This is when someone performs a ritual or follows a prescribed order for religious or spiritual purposes, such as praying, singing, reading scriptures, or celebrating sacraments. For example, you might say “We attended the Sunday service at the church” or “The funeral service was very moving”.
• Service as a set of articles for a particular use: This is when someone has a collection of items that are used for a specific purpose, such as eating, drinking, or serving food. For example, you might say “She inherited a silver tea service from her grandmother” or “He bought a new service for eight at the department store”.
• Service as an administrative division or military force: This is when someone belongs to a part of a government or business that is responsible for a particular area of activity, such as diplomacy, security, intelligence, or justice.
